Note:  Frances Hall married Winthrop Ingersoll in Owego, NY c. 1802.  She was born in 1782/83 and was the daughter of Dr. David Hall.  Her mother's maiden name was Hopkins.  I am convinced, on the basis of  close matches in these and other names and dates, that she must be the Frances Hall who was born in Essex, VT in 1783 and was the daughter of David Hall of Wallingford, CT and Hannah Hopkins of Waterbury, CT.  I have no definite proof of this, but I present the information below as a summary of my ongoing research.

Parallels between Frances Hall of Owego, NY and Frances Hall of Essex, VT.

1. Frances Hall of Owego was recorded in the 1850 census as being 67 years old.
Frances Hall of Essex was born on 23 Aug 1783.

2. Dr. David Hall's tombstone in Apalachin, NY states that he died on 19 Aug 1802 in his 46th year -- which should mean he was born in 1756/7.  (Like many old tombstones, this could easily be off by a year or two.)
David Hall was born in Wallingford, CT on 20 Jun 1758.  In August 1802, he would have just entered his 45th year.

3. Many years, ago, my mother-in-law received a letter on family history from her aunt, much of it based on information provided by an elderly relative, Addie Ingersoll Higbee, who was Frances Hall's granddaughter.  The letter states that David Hall "married Miss --- Hopkins for first wife, she was daughter, neice or sister of Stephen Hopkins, (the signer of Declaration of Independence)."
I have checked out the family of Stephen Hopkins of Rhode Island and have found nothing that even remotely supports this claim of relationship.  However, it seems unlikely that it was made up out of whole cloth.  One possibile explanation is that David Hall's wife was the daughter of a different Stephen Hopkins.
Frances Hall's first two children were named David, presumably after her father, and Hannah, possibly after her mother.  If so, her mother's full name would have been Hannah Hopkins.
David Hall of Wallingford married Hannah Hopkins, the daughter of Stephen Hopkins of Waterbury, CT, on 9 Apr 1778.

4. The same family letter goes on to say about David Hall, "He had several children, Frances (my great grandmother) Betsy, younger, Nancy, older."
David Hall and Hannah Hopkins had the following children:
Anne Miles Hall, b. 23 Jan 1779, Wallingford, CT or Essex, VT (per LDS)
Hannah Hopkins Hall, b. 3 Jan 1781, Essex, VT (per LDS)
married Samuel Pelton of Essex, VT, c. 1796 and moved to Centreville, NY
Frances Hall, b. 23 Aug 1783, Essex, VT (per LDS)
Lois Elizabeth Hall  (no date - listed on a FamilyTree Maker site)
Dorothy (Dolly) Talmadge Hall, b. 7 Jan 1786, Essex, VT (per LDS)
married Johnson Pelton of Essex, VT in 1808 and moved to Ohio
Stephen Hopkins Hall, b. 4 May 1788, Essex, VT (per LDS)
Billy Hatch Hall, b. 18 Apr 1790, Essex, VT (per LDS)

Hannah and Dorothy married brothers from Essex, VT, but I have found no record of marriages in Vermont for the other three girls.  Since Nancy is a nickname for Anne, and Betsy for Elizabeth, the information on the two families is at least compatible.

These multiple coincidences are impressive, but I still have nothing solid to tie David Hall of Essex to David Hall of Owego.  My goals at the moment are to find out (1) whether David Hall of Essex was a doctor, (2) whether he served as a surgeon in the Revolution and received a large land grant in Pennsylvania as a result (as did David Hall of Owego), (3) whether his wife died in Essex around 1790, (4) whether he left Essex, VT before 1800, and (5) whether there are any records of David Hall of Owego that would link him to Essex, Vermont.
