Notes

Several other descendents of John Root and Mary Ashley also wound up in Great Barrington, MA, where one of them, Joshua Root, 3rd married Abigail Dewey's sister, Bethia (who was his second cousin once removed). After Isaac Preston died in 1785, Abigail and her children moved to Oxford, NY in company with Joshua and Bethia. In succeeding generations there were multiple intermarriages among the Roots, Prestons, and Padgets of Oxford.
