Something I Forgot to Do

I lay me down to sleep last night
Lost my way in a dream and forgot my life
Been stuck forever in this traffic jam
And never have time to make the light

There was something I was s'posed to do
But I don't remember now -- do you?
Maybe turn left instead of right
Maybe I shouldn't have gone to bed last night

Can this be what life is for?
Chasin' a dollar always needin' more
Seems I had better things to do
Before I started keepin' score

I used to have something else in mind
A way of life of a different kind
Could have been being instead of buying
Should have been loving instead of lying

Thinking back to how I used to be
When I was young and the world was new
Could I be that way again?
Are there still things for me to do?

I opened my trunk yesterday
And saw reminders of another way
Didn't know what it was gonna mean
When I put all that stuff away

There was something I was gonna be
But I swapped clothes and stopped bein' me
I know I shouldn't-a changed my ways
Should have kept on going 'til better days

Thinking back to how we used to be
When we were young and the world was new
Could we be that way again?
Are there still things for us to do?

I lay me down to sleep one night
Never heard the alarm and lost my life
Now I spend my days running in place
And never have time to seek the light

There was something I was s'posed to do
But I can't remember now -- can you?
Living life with all our might
Maybe we shouldn't-a gone to sleep that night

Thinking back to how we used to be
When we were young and the world was new
We could be that way again
There are still things we have to do
